As promised in April, the tasks and reflection to end the the year are intended to be simple. This month's topic is Prophets of Peace, where we hope that we can recognize people that have done great things in bringing peace to society or peace to the hearts of individuals. We are called to follow the Prince of Peace and act in his likeness in passing peace to others. Ultimately all saints, and people that have done great things for the church, have worked for peace directly or indirectly. The age appropriate videos highlight just a couple major figures that are recognized for the work they did promoting peace. Not all of the videos speak specifically to the centrality of peace in each persons accomplishments. For instance, both Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton were huge proponents of non-violent movements, and the videos don't spent much time on that part of their lives, but give a bigger picture perspective of who they were.
The Shalom video is intended for parents to set a holistic basis for the meaning of peace. If we are searching for a way to be purveyors of peace, having an expansive perspective on helps attain the goal easier. This video should help answer the only question on the survey pertaining to the topic for the month. It asks how we each pass peace along to others. The rest of the questions are evaluations of the program for the year, and recommendations for next year.
If you have any sessions that you need to get caught up on please feel free to go back and access them, everything is still available. If you have questions about the completion of any of the months please let me know.
In closing, I'd like to thank all of our new catechists this year, that would be all of the parents that participated in the program. This wasn't easy for any of us, and staying up to date was particularly challenging for many families. You were not alone in feeling challenged this year. But trust that the time you spent talking about matters of faith will have a lasting impact on your family, even if it seemed like the activity totally failed at the time.
We plan on taking what we learned from you this year, and incorporate it into the in person program that we anticipate having next year.
